I had a splendid long Sunday lunch at West 36, just off Ladbroke Grove W10, with an old business school friend who flew in from Frankfurt, where he’s doing his bit at the European Central Bank.
Its a definite for a long lunch. Recommend booking ahead and indulging in their Sunday lunch menu, in particular the aged rib of beef, which we both had, washed down with a rather nice Syrah, La Serre, Langeudoc.
The restaurant is set over four floors of a corner townhouse on Golborne Road in what they now call (an extended) Notting Hill. It’ retro-modern – think leather armchairs, bare brick and reclaimed wood – in general it offers cosy lounges for cocktails, alongside a robust British menu (with a slight American accent). Covered terraces with bars, open grills and fire pits are used year-round and is especially pleasing if you want an after meal smoke! However, watch out, on a sunny day, the terrace becomes a sun trap and roasts you.
