This is one of my favourite curry recipes, its quick and simple and, as a friend of mine described it, ‘ it’s a ” kicking” curry!’. You have the option to make it as chilli hot or as mild as you like.
Ingredients:
- Beef (600gms Cubed) £4.50
- Oil (I prefer Ground Nut oil but you can use Vegetable oil) £1.50
- 3 Large Onions £0.69
- 3 cloves of Garlic £0.50
- Tumeric powder £0.85 (available at all good supermarkets)
- Curry Powder (available at all good supermarkets) £1.00
- Chilli powder £1.00
- Salt
Total: £10.04 serves 3-4 people, £2.50 per head
Step 1: Cut up 3 large onions and dice 3 gloves of fresh garlic
Step 2: Add half a cup of oil and heat the oil in pan then add both the onions & garlic
Step 3: Fry the onions & garlic till they are brown
Step 4: Add 1 & 1/2 level dessert spoons of Tumeric and 2 level dessert spoons of medium Curry Powder
Step 5: Add Chilli powder to taste, I usual add 1 tea spoon of chilli powder but if you like it hotter, add more, of if you do not like chilli don’t add any.
Step 6: Stir the Tumeric, Curry Powder & Chilli Powder into the onions & garlic base
Step 7: Add the Beef and stir well
Step 8: Add Water till the Beef is covered. Add salt to taste.
Step 9: Let simmer on a medium heat, with the lid on, for 30 to 40 minutes or until the oil comes to the surface.
Step 10: It’s ready to serve.
I usually serve it with white Basmati plain rice and a fresh tomato & cucumber salad. The cucumber salad is just diced cucumber & tomatoes with the juice of half a lemon and half a lime, salt and pepper. I also add a couple of small fresh green cut chillies into the salad.
