Just had a flying visit to Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, an autonomous province of Iraq. It is 45 minutes from Mousul, but unlike the images shown on television, it is, compared to the rest of Iraq, a haven of security. The main industry is oil and natural resources, some say with more reserves than Saudi! Its a beacon for expats in the region, having a much greater mix of peoples and cultures; Kurds, Assyrians, Armenians, Lebanese and close to 80,000 Expats, all living together without issue. As with all emerging nations the main requirements are infrastructure and training. Budgets there are currently tight due to oil revenue sharing disputes with Baghdad and the problems with ISIS but this will change. Its a place to be watched as it has great potential.
