For my Mother’s 80, we were very kindly invited by an old family friend to Hakkasan in Mayfair. I had dined at the first restaurant they opened in Hanway Place and this was their second on Bruton Street.
If you don’t like stairs and darkness this is not the place for you. Not too sure why they keep the restaurant so dark, maybe to stop others being seen with those that they should not be with, but it’s like trying to navigate a bat cave. However once your eyes acclimatize, the ambiance is relaxing and, on each occasion I have been there, the tables are full.
We have a delightful dinner, six of us in total, and the Dim Sum was exceptional. The rest was very good but, in my opinion, no better than any other top Chinese Cantonese restaurant, such as Royal China.
My recommendation is to take the Dim Sum menu option: Lunch or Tea. or for dinner, the ‘Taste of Hakkasan‘ menu at £38 per head.
