Just had a delightful weekend break with my wife in Barcelona, visiting the usual sights; Gaudi’s Casa Batllo, the Sagrada Familia etc. However the highlight for us was the fine fayre on offer. In particular those small family run bars and restaurants off the tourist routes.

If you want to stay in a ‘restaurant with rooms’, try the Hotel Market which, from our experience, is mainly frequented by the locals. Forget their breakfast, instead pop across the road to the local bakery or the local tapas bar on the corner of the street. A little bit further around the corner you’ll find a delightful family run restaurant called Casa Dorita. I recommend the local Catalin house red, their Tripe Casserole, Iberian Beef Cheek and the Pork Feather . After which you can while away the hours in sobramesa
Another local delight, again just around the corner, is Market Sant Antoni. Much like in Barcelona’s legendary Boqueria market, you should be able to find many of Spain or Catalonia’s classic delicacies here, but its position in the hip, but less touristic Sant Antoni district (as opposed to slap bang in the middle of Las Ramblas), means that your shopping is less likely to be interrupted by a posse of camera-wielding tourists.
